Antagonistic qualities

The crackle of crickets
charges up my eardrums,
The summer heat
can be felt on the tip of my tongue,
as if it were hooked up to
9 volt battery connectors.
Hot air so thick
as if atmospheres had been replaced
with the hoods of jelly fishes.
One of those desolate days,
desolation itself can't be
pinned down to the concrete,
for the day itself has antagonistic qualities
The heat drains my strength
to it's actual size
And I wish there was
some sort of bulletproof west.
As if immunity to anxiety could manifest
itself in talismanic phrases
tattooed across the chest,
to advise my inner specters:
That in the name of resilience,
they had no power here.
